| Personal History | Annika was born on Betazed in August 2258, the daughter of the future matriarch of the First House of Betazed. To anyone else her house status would be a big deal, but to Annika it’s simply a title and a future matriarch position that she’s not really interested in. Growing up amongst other Betazoids she has been used to sharing minds and thoughts since she was a child, her abilities manifesting much earlier than they should have. With the arrival of outsiders on Betazed it meant learning to clamp down on her telepathy to prevent misunderstandings. Having a mother in the Counselling field, it seemed only natural that Annika would take an interest in psychology herself, enrolling at Betazed University in 2274 at the age of 16. She proved herself a talented student, and a natural Counsellor so much so she drew the attention of those arranging to send Counsellors to the Federation. Plans were still being made, but she was added to the short list of candidates. Whilst visiting Earth several years later Annika was intrigued by what she saw was being offered at Starfleet Academy and decided to apply to join. If she was to serve aboard a Federation Starship then she saw no reason not to go through the full experience. She proved to be a valued student, rising quickly through the cadet ranks, she graduated four years later with honours in her psychology studies, as well as Operations and her other classes. With the Counselling program finally finalised Annika began her Starfleet career aboard the USS Churchill, the first Betazoid Counsellor to ever serve aboard a Starfleet vessel. It was whilst aboard the Churchill that Annika met and fell in love with Castiel Johnson. Being a patient to begin with Annika fell in love with Castiel and was only too happy to accept his proposal of marriage. They were married shortly before being parted again. Having almost been killed in an explosion aboard the USS Orion, Annika cannot have children, something that’s taken her a long time to come to terms with. She hopes her arrival aboard the Ark Royal will bring a whole new meaning to their relationship and marriage now they will finally be serving together. |
